Working for the Belgian Post Office embarked in a major exercise to gear itself to face the end of the monopoly.
Extremely exciting challenge!
As far as Citibank experience goes:
I joined Citibank's legendary ITG in Brussels in 1983 ... and life would have been quieter had I jumped on a roller coaster.
After 1 year in Brussels I moved the wife & kids to New Jersey. 3 years later relocated to Greece (loved the place and the people!).
End 1991, after surviving 1-2 IS bashing exercises (stock < $10 !), I was finally told that grass was greener elsewhere. Exit Greece, back to Belgium, working for a local Savings bank.
In 1994 return to Citibank for the London based Emerging Markets' CEEMEA team. Roamed Africa for 3 years, looked after CEEMEA's Warsaw Data Centre for 18 months then joined the ELC team in London until 1 July 02, my last day with Citibank.
Met great people, made lots of friends, loved every minute of it!
